Dance Examinations
We believe dance examinations are an important part of any dance education.
Dance examinations provide the opportunity for dancers to be assessed by highly qualified, experienced professionals on set curriculum (learnt in class). Individual assessments are made, providing important feedback to examination candidates.
By participating in dance examinations, dancers develop their skill set in extreme detail, providing goals to work towards. Dance examinations also provide a standard and knowledge of strengths and weaknesses in dance technique.
Dance examinations are recognized internationally, by professional programs alike and are a necessity for individuals wishing to pursue a dance teaching career with certification.
IMperial Society Of The Teachers Of Dancing (ISTD)
We follow the the ISTD syllabi for Classical ballet, Modern Theatre, Jazz, Tap Dance, National and Free Style/Disco/Rock’n’Roll dance examinations. Examinations can be taken in any of the above genres, at any level, from Pre-Primary - Advanced 2 (professional levels).

ACRO DANCE TEACHERs ASSOCIATION (ADTA)
We follow the Acro Dance Teachers Association syllabi for our Acro examinations.
Examinations can be taken at any level from KinderAcro - Advanced 3 (professional levels).

We follow the UDO Street Dance syllabi for our hip hop examinations.
Examinations can be taken at any level from Pre-Primary - Teaching level.

At May Dance, the dance instructor will determine the level of individual students and prepare them adequately during their set class time. All examinations will be arranged during our Technique and Examination seasons (once every two years)*.
In addition to the dance syllabi mentioned above, at May Dance, we can also prepare and enter students for acro dance examinations under the Acrobatic Arts syllabi. Private instruction can also be offered for those wishing to take dance examinations in the following genres: National, Disco/Freestyle/Rock’n’Roll.
All students are prepared in order to take dance examinations, but they are in no way mandatory.
Extra classes may be requested in preparation for dance examinations.
*The next dance season to take dance examinations will be the 2021/2022 dance season.
